1/2 day - 2 days depending on categories completed
We have been carrying out IPAF 1B, 3A, 3B and Harness Training and assessments in Northern Ireland since 2010 and can provide a wide range of operator and demonstrator training for a number of Mobile Elevated Work Platform categories as well as Harness and PAL+ training. Below is information on the types of IPAF Courses we conduct;
This training course instructs an operator to prepare and safely operate various types of MEWPs, also referred to as cherry pickers, aerial lifts or scissor lifts. Categories include;
IPAF’s MEWP Operator Training is certified by TÜV as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878 Mobile elevating work platforms – Operator (driver) training.
Duration of the course is variable depending on the type of course, trainee experience, machine complexity, and the number of machine categories taken. One day is a minimum of seven hours.
You can complete your theory session and theory test online as E-Learning which takes around 3 hours to complete. Following this you will have to do practical training and a practical assessment at our centre which can be completed for 1B, 3A and 3B categories. The practical session will take a 1/2 day to complete meaning you only need to be off work for 1/2 a day as opposed to a full day with the traditional operator training course model.

PAL+ is an optional, additional one day of category-specific training aimed at operators working in higher risk or challenging environments. Machine categories available are 3a+, 3b+.
This course trains a demonstrator to familiarise operators with their responsibilities and to demonstrate pre-operational and safe operating procedures, and the limitations of MEWPs. Categories include;
This Half day course instructs a user to select, inspect and use a harness and associated equipment safely when using a MEWP.
MEWPs for Managers is the essential course for those who plan, supervise and manage the use of mobile elevating work platforms MEWPs in the workplace. Available as either eLearning or a full-day course at our training centre.
The half day course guides candidates through the process of determining the optimum MEWP for a given task. Factors covered include height, reach, up-and-over height, the weight of people, required materials & tools, environment, restrictions, set-up, hazards, permits, accessories, delivery, and completion of documentation to justify the selection. The course is theory-based only and incorporates an exam. Available as either eLearning or a half day course at our training centre.
This 2.5 hour course is delivery entirely through E-Learning and is for anyone who needs to assist a MEWP Operator to safely manoeuvre a MEWP into position, particularly in situations where the Operator has restricted visibility. The Spotter role is ‘another pair of eyes’ and IPAF recommends all Operators, supervisors and site managers also take the course to ensure everyone on site understands the Spotter’s role, hand signals and where the Spotter should be safely positioned.
